Karius should have done better for Dzeko’s goal, pushing El Shaaraway’s effort straight into the path of the Bosnian, who tucked away the loose ball. However, the German made good saves to deny Under and Dzeko later in the game.
Liverpool have booked their place in the Champions League final, but they were made to sweat after scraping past Roma 7-6 on aggregate.
The Reds lost 4-2 on the night but this was just about enough to see them get to their first final in Europe’s elite competition since 2007.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had a three-goal lead going into second leg and after surviving some early pressure when Roberto Firmino capitalised on Radja Nainggolan’s wayward backpass to play in Sadio Mane who fired the ball past Alisson Becker.
The hosts levelled the game when Dejan Lovren’s clearance inadvertently rebounded off the head of James Milner.
However, Liverpool retook the lead when Georginio Wijnaldum headed in Edin Dzeko’s wayward header following a corner.
Dzeko made up for his mistake when he got Roma’s second equaliser of the night just after the break and Nainggolan’s long-range effort put the home side in the lead in the game.
Nainggolan put his side one goal away from forcing extra time when he smashed in a penalty in the final minute of stoppage time after substitute Ragnar Klavan was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball.
But it was too late for a final Roma surge as Liverpool made it through to Kiev where they will meet Champions League holders Real Madrid.
